Parsippany’s Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad (RNFAS) was established in 1952 by the members of Parsippany-Troy Hills Fire District 5. The Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad was formed to help Parsippany Volunteer Ambulance in providing free ambulance service to the Township. The squad currently serves the eastern section of Parsippany and all of Lake Hiawatha.
The squad was originally located at the District 5 Fire House on Old Bloomfield Avenue, but in 1960, relocated down the road on Old Bloomfield Avenue. In 1972, RNFAS realized that an additional location was needed to better serve the residents and a substation was built on Crescent Drive in Lake Hiawatha. In 1987, the squad expanded the Crescent Drive building and vacated the Old Bloomfield Avenue Station. The Crescent Drive location is now the permanent home of the Rockaway Neck First Aid Squad.
All of the members, some of which may be your neighbors, dedicate their time to helping the community. All are certified in CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) at the minimum, First Responder, although most are EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians) and defibrillator certified.
RNFAS has three fully equipped ambulances and a 1st Responder Truck. Each of
the ambulances can accommodate up to three patients, two lying down and one
sitting. The 1st Responder truck carries a sub-set of the ambulance equipment,
but does not carry patients. It is used to provide faster response for critical
problems.
